A strategic plan your Sydney board can act on

A good strategic plan starts with a good conversation. A well-run planning session brings the board and leadership team together around a shared view of the future and ends with clear priorities, not just a full whiteboard. An independent facilitator lets everyone, including the chair and CEO, take part fully.

Sydney is home to many of Australia's financial institutions, professional services firms and national not-for-profits, alongside NSW Government boards and agencies, so expectations of board performance are high. David facilitates strategic planning for Sydney boards and leadership teams, whether they are setting a new direction or refreshing an existing plan.

David's strengths lie in his governance framework, strategic thinking and commercial intellect. He completed AICD programs including The Strategic Director, has chaired boards across many sectors and is a regular guest speaker on director and board duties.

Why Sydney boards bring in a strategic planning facilitator

Clear direction

Leave with agreed priorities and a shared understanding of where the organisation is heading.

Everyone takes part

With an independent facilitator, the chair and CEO can contribute rather than run the session.

A fresh perspective

An outside view helps test assumptions and surface new ideas.

Constructive discussion

Difficult topics are handled openly and respectfully.

Board and management aligned

Clarify who does what in setting and delivering strategy.

A plan, not just ideas

Outputs are captured clearly so the plan can be written, implemented and tracked.

Independent, confidential, practical

How it works

  1. 1

    Plan with you

Agree the purpose, participants and desired outcomes with the chair and CEO.

  2. 2

    Prepare

Gather perspectives and review your current plan so the session focuses on the issues that matter.

  3. 3

    Facilitate

An engaging, well-paced session that keeps discussion focused and inclusive.

  4. 4

    Capture and follow up

A clear summary of decisions, priorities and next steps to shape your strategic plan.

Questions

Strategic Planning FAQs

Why use an independent facilitator for a strategic plan?

An independent facilitator keeps the session focused and balanced, so the chair, CEO and every director can contribute fully. It also brings an outside perspective to test assumptions before they are written into the plan.

Do you provide strategic planning facilitation in Sydney?

Yes. David works with boards and organisations across Australia, including in Sydney and across New South Wales. Get in touch to discuss your organisation and how the work would be delivered.

Can you help refresh an existing strategic plan?

Yes. A session can start from your current plan, test what is still relevant and agree where priorities need to change.

Can you facilitate a joint board and executive session?

Yes. Sessions can involve the board, the executive team or both, depending on what you want to achieve.

What preparation is involved?

David can speak with the chair, CEO and others beforehand to understand the issues, then design the session around them.

What does strategic planning facilitation cost?

Every engagement is tailored, so cost depends on the size of your board or organisation and the scope of the work. Get in touch with David for a confidential proposal.
