CEO Performance Review

CEO performance reviews for Australian boards

Appointing, supporting and evaluating the CEO is one of a board's most important responsibilities. A well-run review gives the CEO clear feedback, aligns their priorities with the board's strategy and builds a strong, trusting relationship between the CEO and the chair.

David helps boards across Australia run CEO reviews that are fair, objective and focused on the future.

As an independent chair and non-executive director across many sectors, with experience on remuneration, nominations, audit and governance committees, David understands both the board's expectations and the CEO's perspective.

A stronger relationship

A well-run review builds trust and open communication between the CEO, the chair and the board.

Development focus

Clear priorities help the CEO grow in the role and lift the leadership team around them.

Good governance

Shows the board is meeting its responsibility to oversee and support the CEO.

Informed remuneration

Gives the board a sound basis for remuneration decisions.

Independent, confidential, practical

Questions

CEO Performance Review FAQs

What is a CEO 360 review?

A CEO 360 review gathers confidential feedback on the CEO's leadership from people who work with them, such as directors, executives and key stakeholders, alongside the CEO's own self-assessment. It gives a rounded picture of strengths and development areas.

Do you provide CEO performance reviews across Australia?

Yes. David works with boards and organisations across Australia. Get in touch to discuss your organisation and how the work would be delivered.

Why use an independent reviewer for the CEO's performance?

An independent reviewer brings objectivity and structure, encourages candid input and takes pressure off the chair–CEO relationship. It also gives the board confidence that the process is fair and robust.

How often should a CEO's performance be reviewed?

Many boards review their CEO's performance annually, aligned with the planning and remuneration cycle, and use a 360 review periodically for a deeper view.

Is CEO performance linked to remuneration?

It can be. A structured review gives the board a sound basis for remuneration decisions, and David also provides remuneration reviews for boards and executives.

What does a CEO performance review cost?

Every engagement is tailored, so cost depends on the size of your board or organisation and the scope of the work. Get in touch with David for a confidential proposal.
